(Above) The monstrous, the mythical, the fabled Hermes Ambassador Type-Writer, 45 lbs. of Swiss engineered steel rescued from the Buckhannon Antiques Emporium, Buckhannon, (West) Virginia *. Our example dates from l965 and was literally stolen for the price of $25.00. If you can only have one type-writer (because your wife won't let you have more), make it a Hermes (or, file for divorce)! (Click pictures for larger images.)

(Above) The Hermes Ambassador with the front cover removed. Note the two sets of ribbon spools. The larger spools in front are for a carbon ribbon. Currently, they contain a correction ribbon which came with the machine. The lower picture is a close-up of the carbon ribbon spools now containing the white correction ribbon. Note the green knobs. Their function is explained below.

(Below) The green knobs in front of the platen tilt the plastic paper scales down to facilitate cleaning or a clearer view of what is being typed. Photo to the right shows the paper injection control.

(Below) New! For l952! The Hermes 2000, with all original documentation. My students thought it was made in the year 2000.

It is the position of the Johnstown Type-Writer Conservatory that the state of "West" Virginia was created illegally and unconstitutionally by the criminal use of force during the War of Northern Aggression and is, therefore, still properly part of Virginia. We mention 'West', but in parentheses, solely for the convenience of our readers who may be uninformed on this point.
